Actually, it was almost completely random. I thought it would be easier to blend in with my clothing choice, even though I don't dress up all decked out like a true hippie. Not only so, but it had a lot of people in the photo, so it was bound to be easier to blend in. I thought it was really ironic how one of the signs said "Keep US out of Vietnam" and yet, I'm standing right next to him and I am Vietnamese.
I think my biggest challenge was the color correction. Not all black and white are the same, unfortunately, and I struggled with that. My black and white, I later realized, was much too yellow for the original photo's black and white.
I think I'm most drawn to the 1920's. I think the concept of women completely changing their views in the world is fantastic, and plus, it was when all the glitter and glamour really started. It was the first sign of modern times. I also loved the slang and the upbeat dances that they did in the 1920's as well. It was a happy time, the Roarin' 20's they called it, when everyone felt rich and no one knew about the Great Depression that was going to hit them only a decade later.
