A. Update
and restate your proposal. (min. 500 wds)
I was sitting in a
waiting room with a couple other interviewees, nervously looking forward to the
potential internship position before us. I knew exactly what I was going to say
and rehearsed them over and over in my head, whispering to myself and receiving
strange glances from the people around me. There were around eight other girls
up for this position and each had a separate personality I could already
predict was perfect for the job—if not any job. Because
it was an interview set up in a certain way for immediate response, we were
able to know whether or not the internship was ours or not just a few seconds
after speaking with Jennifer Cook, head of the Mary Kay Foundation department.
The ones who got the position were obvious, running to their friends/families
or just wearing a bright smile on her face whilst walking out the room. The
ones who didn’t get the position were also obvious, with merely subtle smiles
or looks of disappointment before walking to retrieve their items. One thing
that each successful applicant had in common was their personality outlook.
Each of them seemed to be extroverted, open, and eager. Those who were timid
and anxious didn’t seem too successful. I found that to be the case for almost
any interview I’ve attended—whether it was for a scholarship, a university, or
a job—all employers and supremacies adore applicants who gave the impression of
extroversion off the bat. Of course, success is situational and might not
work with all higher-ups, however, studies have shown that those who give the
first impression of proactive behavior do better at interviews and achieve jobs
more easily. According to Forbes Magazine, the top qualities in an employee are
“culturally fit”, “displaying leadership”, and “confident”. It is concluded that
extroversion is extremely favored in terms of the workplace, but how about in
social situation? In most eHarmony® and Match.com®, traits that most women
and men alike look for in a partner are “outgoing”, “adventurous”, and
“exciting”, all of which are traits of those who score high in extroversion in
personality tests. Extroversion is also preferred in platonic social
situations, as well, such as the “popular crowd” in schools being filled with
students who are usually termed extroverted. Now that we have established
the fact that extroverted personalities are preferred over introverted
personalities, how can we become more extroverted? A study says that
personality stabilizes around age 25, however is first distinctive around the
age of 6, which is the perfect age after daycare. As we all know, daycare is
widely known as a child watch service that follows a curriculum, loosely tied
to education and academics. During this time, a child’s personality first
begins to form and it is extremely influenced by the environment while learning
what they are encouraged to do and what they are discouraged to do. Children
are usually shamed for offering a false answer and praised for only right
answers, whether or not they offer it. Unfortunately, this leads to humiliation
and shyness, making the child realize that he/she is more comfortable not
putting himself/herself out there.
B. Have
you gained additional experience that affects your choice of media?
I will most likely use
as little media as possible because I believe that a good presenter is one who
can present without too much aid. Of course I will use some forms of media
regardless because it’s required and the presentation should be the focus of
success, not how much the presenter has improved.
C. State
which media will you use and why.
I
will most likely use the poster and perhaps the website. I also want to use a
Powerpoint, a classic visual aid in all presentations. It would only be there
to guide me through the presentation, however.
